Calculate Australian resident take-home pay using Stage 3 income tax brackets and the 2% Medicare levy. HECS-HELP repayments and the Medicare Levy Surcharge are not modelled.
Resident rates. Excludes Medicare levy.
Tax-free up to $18,200, then 16% to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000, and 45% above. The Stage 3 reform cut the 19% bracket to 16% and widened the 30% bracket.
Most working residents pay a 2% Medicare levy on taxable income. A low-income reduction applies below ~$26,000. High earners without private hospital cover may also owe the Medicare Levy Surcharge (not modelled).
HECS-HELP repayments (1–10% based on income tier), superannuation tax, LITO/LMITO offsets, and other state-level levies. Add HECS manually if you have a student loan.
Annual gross income is walked through the 2024-25 resident brackets (0% to $18,200, then 16/30/37/45%), the 2% Medicare levy is added on top, and the result is your annual income tax. Subtract from gross to get net take-home. The Medicare Levy Surcharge applies to high earners without private hospital cover but isn't modelled.
Yes. The Stage 3 changes took effect 1 July 2024 — they replaced the 19% bracket with 16% and widened the 30% bracket significantly. The 37% and 45% top brackets stayed but the income thresholds shifted slightly.
No. Compulsory HECS-HELP repayments scale from 1% to 10% based on income and start around $54,000. They come off your salary before take-home but aren't modelled in this calculator. Add manually using the Advanced panel if relevant.
No. Superannuation (currently 11.5% of ordinary time earnings, rising to 12% in July 2025) is paid by your employer on top of your salary — it doesn't reduce your take-home but it also doesn't show as cash in your pocket. The 15% concessional contributions tax is also outside this calculator.
